Services for Pottawattamie County Communities
Communities in Pottawattamie County are entitled to various GIS services at no cost or half price. Below is a list of services provided followed by the pricing for each.
Utility Mapping. We have two GPS devices that are available to be used to map your utilities. We have helped three communities map their sanitary, storm and water systems. The benefit of mapping your utilities is great. Knowing the location of your infrastructure is vital. Communicating the locations to contractors or other city staff is fundamental. The only cost is your time. - Zoning. We recently worked with Council Bluffs to map their zoning, permits, historic districts, etc… This information is now being served on the new GIS website. It is important for citizens, businesses and developers to be aware of zoning opportunities and restrictions.
- Other mapped data. It is said that 85% of all databases have a spatial component. If you maintain data in a spreadsheet or database it’s very likely that it could be mapped. To visually see that data on a map is likely beneficial to many. Cemetery plots, permits, parks, road maintenance, hydrant reports are all examples that I’ve seen. Depending on the amount of work the costs could vary, but will be half ($30/hour) of what is charged to outside agencies.
- Printing. Consider us a print shop. We have a large format printer and scanner. We can scan or copy original documents for posterity. We can print (and export) maps for your offices, meetings, events or brochures. These are free services for Pottawattamie communities.
Business Services. The CB Chamber of Commerce and WIDA have access to a new demographic reporting tool. It creates reports and maps that summarize by drive times or distances from any location. The reports include many demographic categories: population, education, income, spending, race, gender, age, housing, etc…for the current year (not 2000)! Contact WIDA or the CB Chamber for information on how to utilize this service.- GIS Website (gis.pottcounty.com). As you know it displays parcels, addresses, aerial photos, etc… The site also gives you the ability to create mailing labels for any given area – you decide. This is a free service and training is available anytime for Pottawattamie communities.
